Loose screws caused me loose screws. Over time I've had to pull my laptop apart for various reasons, and I've lost some screws and I've intentionally left some out, knowing I rarely have to take it with me anywhere and knowing I will eventually need to go back in again. Unfortunately.... this made for some ever so slightly movable parts in the area of my memory slots which I didn't even notice until tonight. To hold a 2 gig stick in one hand and a half gig in the other presents a slight difference in both weight and thickness, and it seems that this was just enough to make the heavier thicker stick insert easily and tightly while somehow the others were no longer fitting correctly into the clamps, even as I tried to make damn sure they were, every time I traded them out over the last few days. So one mystery solved, and a little embarrassed:)

It still doesn't explain why my videos are still screwing up, but it might be that the random little red and green pixels I see everywhere lately are a clue, and possibly not related to my RAM at all. I've been told to hook up an external monitor (which I have, luckily) and that will determine if my graphics card is dying or if my LCD is going kaput. Either way, my lovely manufacturer tells me I need to send the laptop in to them for the repair. Isn't that nice?

PS- Thanks to Joe Power for all your help!
