Besides the problems that Stoner highlighted, such as the possibility of Windows storing temporary files of the data being transferred, the Windows registry will store at what time you plugged in your external hard disk, this external hard disk has a unique ID number (this number reveals the external hard disk manufacturer). Someone with access to both, your Windows OS an the external hard disk, can determine you plugged it in at a certain time certain day. I would also be concerned that if you browse the contents stored in the encrypted external device the file names could easily be stored by Windows. It does not seem like a safe method to transfer data to me. Another possible problem is that if your computer crashes for whatever reason during the data transfer Windows dump could be storing some of the file contents, and even the password for your encrypted container. Page file is another weak point, etc... Too many points of failure. ![]() |
