Over and over I see such emphasis on the details of encryption. My real question is "why"? If the authorities seize your computer, and it's in their possession, what on earth is to stop them simply copying anything they want onto it? It's not as if your lawyer is in the room with them watching all the steps of their "forensic examination".

Of course, you could trust that the police are always ethical and truthful and never cheat, but, seriously, would you?

If you want to use encryption to protect your privacy, say for financial information or the protection of your online contacts, fine, but if you're thinking it will save you from a KP charge, think again.

It just seems so ridiculous to spend hours and hours trying to fine tune your encryption to make it bulletproof, when all the cops have to do is copy their own KP images to your HD.
