Been going through browser updates lately and I've noted a couple of things. Firefox: Now up to version 3.6. Personas are neat: there are tens of thousands of them now and you just hover over one on the list and it changes the window in a second or less. Must be a very quick, invisible download. Version 3.6 also loads MUCH faster than 3.5; I use a remote profile for FF and 3.5 took up to 3 minutes to open, 3.6 takes 20 seconds. Firefox/Tor bundle: Available on the TOR site. I installed it on a flash drive, but it is so unbelievably slow I gave up. TEN MINUTES to open and be functional. No thanks. And it's a very old version (3.01) of Firefox. OperaTor: The OperaTor bundle installs to a flash drive just as the FF/Tor one does. But it's WAY faster. Takes a few seconds to open, and maybe a minute to set up the Tor circuit. After that, it's pretty fast. Unlike the FF/Tor bundle, which uses a very old FF version, this one uses the latest version (10.10) of Opera. As with anything using Tor, you must have a very recent version. They debugged the Tor network a couple of weeks ago and nothing before then works anymore. Webmaster ![]() |
