Monitor power down - NOT.

For years I've made use of that handy feature in Windows that powers down one's monitor instead of simply activating a screen saver. It's handy during the hot summers if one's using a large CRT monitor that takes the entire output of one air conditioner just to counteract its heat production!

I have a LAN with half a dozen machines, and lately the ones I use most have stopped doing the monitor power-down completely. The monitor simply stays on forever, until I turn it off with its own switch or shut off the computer. If I was a suspicious man (hah) I'd say it started roughly around the time of one of the recent monthly Windows Updates.

I've done my Googling, with no luck whatever. Anyone else come across this one? It's a helluva hot summer and I don't want to spend $$$$ on LCD monitors; not when the CRT ones are working so well otherwise.
